October Favourites!

Beauty

Make up:

I don't have any skin care favourites this month, just a couple of makeup treasures that I have really been enjoying this month. Starting with my Revlon Lip Butter in 'Macaroon, this has been my favourite thing to pop on my lips no matter where I am going!

Next is my NARS 'Taos' Blush, these two products compliment each other so well! I have not used any other blush since getting this NARS blush earlier this month. I can see why people 'collect' NARS blushes, the texture and colour range is very different to other brands.

Leisure

TV:

On to my non-beauty favourites; 'Arrow' this is a new US drama based on the Green Arrow comic. I love this show and hope it gets renewed, it's only shown three episodes but I already like the conspiracy that is the underlying story line. And his abs are truly a work of the heavens! (perv much?! =$)

Music:

I've really been enjoying listening to Mumford & Sons new album 'Babel'. They come back with another album with amazing lyrics and amazing bonjo's and tambourines.

What have been your favourites this month! Eeee my birth month is upon us, keep a look out for birthday related posts! Hope you have all had an amazing October! =D

Regretful Purchases!

As someone who loves makeup I'm finding it hard to write this post, because I try to make every product I buy work for me. But these four products I wish I had put a little more thought into when purchasing them, now this isn't to say that they won't work for you, just that they aren't really products I reach for. If you have any of these products, please let me know how you make them work for you.

On to the products themselves; firstly I am going to start with MAC Mineralize Satinfinish Foundation (NC42). This was my first ever MAC foundation. I wanted something that would give me some illumanosity to my face and as a newbie to makeup (at the time) I made the mistake of picking this. Honestly, I don't actually know why they make this as a foundation. I love their Mineralize Powder, but the foundation is thick and definitely needs to be mixed in with a moisturiser. The light reflective particles that it has are very noticeable, so I wouldn't recommend to wearing it during the day. And you can't really wear it in the evening if you are going to take pictures (ghost face galore I tell ya).

However I have made this product work to my advantage and if you have this and don't like using it as a foundation maybe this will help. I use it as a highlighter and I love it for that because it is has the right undertone as my skin (being a foundation) and it's really light reflective. I just get it on a concealer brush and pop it on the high points of my cheeks, gives a lovely dewy finish! But ultimately I wouldn't repurchase that product and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone for what it is actually made for.

Moving on to the next product; my NYX Round Lipstick in 'Femme'. I bought this whilst in America and I admit that it was an impulse buy. I wanted their matte lipstick but the store that I went to didn't stock it. I personally find a problem with the texture of this lipstick, it's very creamy, I say too creamy. I find when I apply it from the bullet the pigmentation that I get from it is uneven. It doesn't help that I picked a super bright colour (orange red) that doesn't really suit me.

I can imagine that this product may work on a lot of people, it's just that it's not my personal preference. I try and use it by getting a bit of colour on my finger and rubbing it on my lips so the colour isn't so strong. But it isn't something I reach for.

Next up are two blushes; the Maybelline Dream Touch Blush (it doesn't say what colour it is. I haven't really used it since purchasing it and it has now actually dried up a tad in the pot (has come away at the sides of the pot). When I bought this product I had acne, so when I popped this on my cheeks, you can imagine that it didn't look good. I think because of that it has just gotten a little left out. It still is creamy, so I may just start using it again, but I am more drawn to using my other cream blushes. I regret buying this product at a time where my skin wasn't at it's best.

The last product is my most recent purchase, the ELF Cream Blush in 'heart breaker'. I would not describe this blush as a cream formula. I would call it a mousse formula which gives a powder finish. I find that the pigmentation isn't that great on this product. It's a bit of a shame because I liked all the other products that I bought. Of course I can make this product work for me and for the price that I paid I'm not going to complain too much, just that if you're expecting a truly creamy product, this isn't it.

Have any of you tried any of these products? What have you thought of them? What products do you regret buying?

Purple And Gold Birds!

Hello lovelies!! Hope you all have a good weekend! Just another quick outfit post this evening. It was another one of my friends birthdays last week so we went out to celebrate last night. Once again the weather was much to be desired but hey ho, we Brits get on with it, don't we!

Strap Top - H&M | Blouse - Primark | Jeans - Topshop | Shoes - M&S
L-R: Boots (Sale) | Boots (Old) | New Look (Old)
Base Colour: Nails Inc 'Oakley Street', on top: Models Own 'Gold Digger'

I'd just like to say thank you to my friend Wendy for taking these pictures on her swanky camera as we were rushing to leave. As I mentioned in one of earlier posts I went to the new Primark on the Tottenham Court Road. I bought this purple blouse with birds on it. It actually has buttons down the back of it (sorry no pic), they are black enamel ones with gold around them. It was a bargain at £10, I know I will be making use out of it.

I just wore gold jewellery with it. The arrow head necklace was from Miss Selfridges in the sale at £2. I don't remember the costs of the rings as they are old, except for the peace sign one, which was on sale at £2. And on my ears I wore triangle drop earrings from Forever 21 .

For my makeup I used MACs 'Amber Lights' all over the eye lids and used my Estee Lauder Palette and mixed the cranberry and deep purple together and used it on the outer 'V', pulling slightly toward the inner crease. I also dragged it underneath. Just blended it with a fluffy eye shadow brush so all the edges were smooth. Avon supershock liner on the 'tight line' and Bobbi Brown Gel Liner in Espresso Ink along the lash line. I used No.7 Extravagant Volume Mascara after I curled my lashes.

On my face I used my MAC Fix Fluid (NC 42), Bobbi Brown corrector (Dark Peach), MAC Studio Finish Concealer (NC42), MAC Satin Finish Foundation (NC42) as a highlighter, NARS 'Taos' on the cheeks, Bare Minerals Mineral Veil and on the lips my Revlon Lip Butter in 'Macaroon'.

I know my friend had an awesome time celebrating, next birthday is mine =O just a month to go!

Anywho…Hope you all have a wonderful week! =D

Polish Post #6 Midnight Starlight!

I haven't worn really dark nails in such a long time, I think the last time I wore black on my nails was when I was living out at Uni for my second year, that was a long 5 years ago =O how time flies! I wore my new Topshop polishes this week and they have lasted quite well with only slight chipping, but it's been 4 days, that's quite good in my book. (The picture was taken after a few days of wear hence the chipped nails)

I am absolutely loving 'Lead', the duo chrome effect between the purple and teal/green shimmer that you get in different lights is really nice. I could have gotten away with one coat but I wanted to make sure that it would wear for a while so I applied two. There was little drying time between coats which is always a plus, like most people I can't stand waiting for polishes to dry.

I used 'Panther' as an accent colour on my ring finger. Now this polish wasn't as how I would have liked it; the amount of glitter chunks that come out aren't enough in one coat in my opinion and I didn't want to overload my nail with product so I didn't apply another coat. But I know I will make use out of it as I really like that silver and black glitter chunks that it has. It would look lovely over dark purples or fuchsias.

Are you liking the metallics trend? What metallics do you have?

Beauty Bits & Bobs!

As some of you may know I have been splurging lately in terms of beauty buys. I think where I haven't bought anything in a while, I have gone a little crazy! It's allowed, right? There are a few firsts in this post, so lets just get to it…

I'm going to start with my more 'expensive' purchases, as you may have read in my previous post I went into Selfridges on Saturday and these are the goodies I bought, along with some delicious Topshop beauty products.

I bought another NARS blush, in 'Taos'; I was attracted to its dark terracotta colour, I have never seen a colour like it. It's such a natural colour on my skin tone and it's warming to the face. As always the pigmentation is amazing, there is a slight sheen to the blush, but I can't see any glitter particles.

My next NARS purchase (which was a first) was the eye shadow duo in 'Surabaya'; I love these browns! I haven't worn anything else since purchasing this! They are so warming and you can definitely create a sultry smokey eye with this, there are gold shimmers in it, but they don't really transfer onto the lid, which is a bit of a shame but nevertheless, the colour pay off is really good. If you have blue eyes I would definitley tell you to go and have a look see.

Another first for me was buying something Laura Mercier. I got the blush quad in 'Pink Rose', again this was the warm toned blush out of the two pinks that were on display (can you see the trend?). This blush is completely matte, so perfect for the day time. Again the pigmentation is really good, I haven't worn this one but I know I will like it.

On to the Topshop stuff, now this was bought with student discount (my friends; so thank you to her for that!). I've been wanting to try one of their lipsticks for a while after hearing so many good things about them, so I picked up this lippy in 'Hazard'. I am clearly going through a phase of statement lips. The formula of this lipstick is matte, but it's moisturising and doesn't lose its pigmentation.

The last two Topshop items are nail polishes in 'Lead' and 'Panther' ,which is apart of their collection 'Dark side of Nude'. I love 'Lead' because in some light it looks like it has a green shimmer running through it and in others it looks like it has a purple shimmer running through it.

Now the next lot wasn't intended to go in this post but I figured it may as well. The first lot I got from Boot's on their 3 for 2 offer. I've been lusting after the Sally Hansen Insta-Dry top coat for a mighty long time and decided it was finally time I buy it.
Along with that I got the 'Expert Face Brush' and 'Setting Brush' from Real Techniques. I love this brand and all it's brushes (of which I have a majority). The quality, ethos and price tag always draws me back to this brand; whenever my friends ask me what brushes to get (especially to put foundation on with) I tell them to get Real Technique brushes, no question!

I have been needing a new mascara for a while as all the ones I have are all drying up and not performing to the best of their ability! So after hearing so much about the L'oreal 'Telescopic' (waterproof) mascara from the lovely and gorgeous Vivianna from Vivianna does makeup, I have been wanting to try it. So instead of buying my usual Maxfactor False Lash Effect I got this. I have only worn it once (right now) and it is holding it's curl, but I'm going to reserve judgement for now.
Next is another lipstick (naughty) from the Kate Moss collection for Rimmel, number '107'. The colour is a darker tone of Nails Inc 'Piccadilly Circus' (which I have been wanting to match forever). The formula is creamy and the finish is matte, there is a smell of rose which I'm not too fond of but I can get over it considering the colour and pigmentation.
Finally is this Blistex 'MedPlus' balm, I have been using this since I bought it which has only been a few days but my lips are noticeably softer and there is no cracking! I have been applying it before I go to sleep and in the mornings. I can tell this is going to get repurchased already!

L-R: Peach Puff | True Blue | Gold Digger
L-R:Motcomb Street | Northcumberland | Oakley Street | Pimlico | York Street
L-R: A List | Allure | Bordeaux

Finally I bought a whole load of polishes from TKMaxx, this is my final first, buying something from TKMaxx. I wanted to see if my store had any beauty bits in it, and to be honest these were the only gems I could find. I'm very happy with my purchases and can't wait to wear most of the shades I bought. I got all of them for a fraction of the RRP so I am not going to complain (unless they end up being rubbish).

That was a lot of stuff! And I know I am not going to spend money on beauty bits for a really long time! Here's hoping!

Overnight Makeup!

Hello lovelies! Hope you all had a good weekend! Back to the daily grime tomorrow! Just wanted to share what I took with me this weekend when I went to stay around my friends house to help her clear her wardrobe. We were swimming in clothes when we initially emptied her closet. We filled four bin bags worth of clothing for the charity shop! I was actually in shock with the amount of clothes my friend had, but now it's at a much more manageable level, plus I had so much fun going through it all and being the brutal friend who just said 'No!'.

On to what I had in my makeup bag (well my mum's);

Clarins Energising Moisturiser SPF15
BalanceMe Wonder Eye Cream
Jemma Kidd Light as Air foundation SPF15
Illamasqua Powder Blush in Create
Bare Minerals Minerale Veil
Sleek Palette in Oh So Special
No 7 Extravagant Volume Mascara
MAC lipstick in Brave

Tools:

Shu Uemura Eye Lash Curlers
Sigma E25 (eye brush)
No7 Foundation Brush
Real Techniques Blush Brush
Eco Tools Angled Brush
No7 Lash and Brow groomer

I didn't take any concealer or contour, which are a normal part of my makeup routine, because I didn't want to carry too much. We went to Oxford Street when we finally finished clearing her clothes out, a mere three and a half hours later, and checked out the new Primark in Tottenham Court Road, it has 4 floors!! =O Felt a lot less busy than the one by Marble Arch. We then went to Topshop and Selfridges where I did some damage on the beauty front. I shall be sharing those goodies in my next post!

Here are a few pics of the clear out! (That first pic isn't even all of it!)

Hope you all had a good weekend! =)

Autumn Nails!

I suppose it's time for me to put away my bright fuchsia's and oranges and get out my darker more sultry colours for my nails.

L-R: Barry M 'Red Black' | Nails Inc 'Piccadilly Circus' | 17 'Chaperone' | OPI 'You don't know Jacques' | Models Own 'Grace Green' | Inglot '955'

I love muted pastel shades for this time of year, they add a pop of colour without being too bright. Subtle but eye catching against darker clothing, which we are inevitably going to wear at this time of year.

The ones that I have shown above are what I would describe as muted. They are the Models Own's 'Grace Green', 17's 'Chaperone', Inglots '995' and OPI's 'You Don't know Jacques'. I would have to say that all my Models Own polishes (all 4) are muted colours perfect for autumn. I got them last year around this time and can't wait to wear them this year, actually as I am writing this I have on Models Own's Concrete Mixer.

The Barry M 'Black Red' is a classic I think for this time of year, I remember last year there was a massive hype surrounding this colour in the youtube and blogging world and I can understand why, the deepness of this colour just says it all, although you need to apply even coats (3 at that) otherwise you get streakiness.

The last colour here is Nail Inc's 'Piccadilly Circus', this nail polish colour for me is an all year kind of colour, it's not too dark for summer and not too bright for winter. This has to be one of my all time favourite polishes (did I just say that?!)

These colours are just a selection and obviously there is no rule on what you can or can't wear, I just know that these are the colours that I will be pulling from my box whilst the weather is chilly.

What colours will you be pulling out? I'd love to know what you would recommend! Hope you beauties have had a good week and are looking forward to the weekend!

Plum & Wine ... Lips!

It's this time of year that makes everyone want to break out those wines and plums, lipsticks that is. And why not! I for one love them, they suit my skin tone far more than pink tones people wear during summer. I have collected a few (ok, a lot) reds, plums and wine colours over the years and I have to admit I've never really been brave enough to wear them in the day, but I have a feeling this year is going to be different.

I thought I would share with you the lip products that I know I will be wearing whether it's day or night this Autumn.

L-R: No 7 Grace | MAC Rebel | MAC Viva Glam I | Revlon Black Cherry

Firstly I'm going to start off with my No.7 gem, 'Grace' (Stay Perfect range), I would describe it as a brownish burgundy. I love the formulation of this lipstick, creamy but not shiny (suppose that would be a satin finish?). This is the only formulation I like out of all the No.7 lipsticks, the others are too shiny. I know I'm going to be wearing this particular lipstick a lot in the coming months.

Next are my two MAC lipsticks; 'Rebel', a blogger favourite. I understand the 'hype' around this lipstick, it's a lovely dark black-current colour. You can wear it sheerly by just putting a little bit on and rubbing it in with your fingers or a full on dark lip (like the picture). Totally vampy!

My other MAC lippy is the one I wore in my last post; 'Viva Glam I' (matte). It's a gorgeous burnt red colour. I love the colour payoff of this lipstick and the way it looks on the lips, definitely going to repurchase this when I run out. As always the smell of MAC lipsticks is Vanilla…I lurvvve it!! I could just sniff it all day! That's not weird right?

My final Lipstick is going to be Revlon 'Black Cherry'. This is a similar depth to 'Rebel' but red version. This formulation is got a bit of shine to it, but nothing too extreme. This is another one that I am going to get a lot of use out of. I initially bought it for my mum, but she doesn't wear it…so obviously I am! =)

I know all of them are non glossy finishes, but that is what I prefer personally. But I do have some sheerer deep autumnal tones that you could wear if you're scared (as I once was) of wearing a full on dark/deep lip.

L-R: Models Own Pomegrante | Revlon Berry Smoothie | Revlon Bourdeaux

My Models Own Balm in 'Pomegrante' is lovely if you just want to dabble in a darker colour for the day time, it's quite sheer and just gives a hint of colour, a bit like your lip was just bitten…sexy! ;-) You can also build up the colour if you want a glossy bitten look. And the smell of this is just….yumtastic!

Something that is berry toned (obvious in the name) is Revlon's lip butter in 'Berry Smoothie'. The picture shows it to be more pinky but I think on most other lips it will come out more berry toned, as the swatch looks.

Lastly is a lipgloss; Revlon Colourburst lipgloss in 'Bordeaux'. The pigmentation of this gloss is just…wow! It's a similar tone to the 'Black Cherry' but you can apply this so there is a less colour and obviously your lips will be luscious and glossy.

So there are the lippies that I am going to be making use of with the seasonal change! What are you going to be pulling out this Autumn? Have you tired any of those mentioned? What do you think?

Dancing In The Rain!

The next two months are going to be super duper busy for me with birthdays, catch ups and seasonal occasions (Halloween & Diwali). But I love it, I get to see all my favourite people, have some laughs and eat loads! =D

I started off this ghostly month of October by going out for a friends 25th last night. It wasn't anything big, just went to a club in my local town. The poor birthday boy was so tired he didn't want to dance or drink at the beginning of the night. I felt bad but of course he picked up his spirits and in no time we were all boogieing on down (people still say that right?!).

Just wanted to share what I wore with you lovely people and what my face looked like =)

Top (Tunic/Dress) - ASOS (Old) | Belt - ASOS | Skirt - Miss Selfridges | Tights - M&S (60 Denier) | Shoes - M&S Limited collection

Nails - Barry M Red Black (NP115) | Rings - can't remember, sorry! | Bracelet - Gift

Eyes: MUA Palette in Heaven and Earth | MAC shadows Tempted & Romp | Bobbi Brown Gel eye liner in Espresso Ink | No 7 Extravagant Volume Mascara
Lips: Maxfactor lip liner in Fire | MAC Viva Glam I | Revlon super lustrous lipstick in Black Cherry
Cheeks: Sleek contour Kit in Medium

I loved this lip and it lasted all night without reapplying! That deserves a thumbs up!! =D

I prefer matte lips personally, I find glossy lips have too much movement and that's just asking for a lipstick on cheek or teeth situation, not cool!

I curled my hair using the BaByliss conical wand and just clipped it back to stay out of my face.

Today is going to consist of lazying around the house...just what I need! Hope you're all having a gorgeous weekend!! =D

Turning over a new Leaf!

The Autumn coolness is settling in and the crisp mornings are taking hold, it all sounds so romantic. I love this time of year, the changing of the season; so obvious and beautiful. The changing leaves are my inspiration for this look, if you follow me on instagram (@Rohini_patel) you will have seen me post this picture of a tree that's outside my house, the leaves have just started to change to their autumnal colours, I love these earthy tones.

With those colours in mind I decided to get my trusted sleek palettes out to see if I could create something and of course all the colours I wanted were there in those palettes.

Products used:

Face:
MAC Studio Fix Fluid (NC42)
MAC Studio Finish Concealer (NC42)
NARS Multiple in 'South Beach'

Lips:
Models own Balm in 'Pomegranate'

Eyes:
Sleek palettes in 'Original' and 'Sunset'
Avon Super shock liner in 'Black'
No 7 Extravagant Lashes in 'Black'

Eyes, how to:

I started by placing all the colours where I wanted them to be. So using a small brush I placed the 'Grass Green' (No.1) in my inner tear duct area. Next to that I put the other 'Moss Green' (No.2), I didn't put too much of this colour as I just wanted to use it as a transitional colour.

Using the amber colour (no.4) across the rest of my lid using a flat eye shadow brush. I found that between the green and amber colour I needed something else so I used the 'Yellow' (No.3) from the sunset palette to keep the colours fluid (using the smaller brush).

To deepen the outer corner I used the 'Burnt Red' colour (No.5) and created a 'V' shape to give some depth to the eye (using the tip of the flat eye shadow brush).

Keep Blending and adding colours as you see fit, you don't always get the intensity that you want with one application and the colours sometimes fade when you have blended.

Try not to over blend, otherwise the colours will blob into one and it will look messy. Just use gentle strokes to get the fluidity that you want.

I still wanted it to be darker to using the 'Black' (No.6) I lined the outer half of my lash line (using an angled brush). It was too dark now, so I went back in with the 'Burnt Red' (No.5) going over the top of the black.

I dragged whatever remained of the 'Burnt Red' underneath the eye.

I lined my water line with the Super shock Liner.

Apply lashings of Mascara.

Cheeks:

Just got the NARS Multiple placed it on the apples of my cheeks and blended using my Real Techniques contour brush. Love this colour, warms up the face so nicely, definitely going to be making more use of this with the weather turning.

Lips:

Thought that a deep red would be well suited with the rest of the tones in the looks but didn't want to use a solid colour so this balm was perfect.

The pictures didn't turn out as sharp as I wanted due to may hap hazard picture taking and the lighting was fading.

But I hope you enjoyed this! Are you happy that Autumn is coming, or are you a summer baby?? Till Next time, bundle up warm and have a cup of cocoa!!

September Favourites!

I was really debating on whether to a favourites this month, I haven't really experimented too much this month, but I have been enjoying a few products which I haven't spoken about so this is the perfect opportunity to introduce them.

Beauty

Skin care:

This is my new moisturiser, the Clarins Daily Energizer lotion. It's £20 for 30ml. If you have read any of my pervious posts you will know that I have oily skin and was using the La Roche Posay Effaclar K. As much as I do love that product and would recommend it to anyone who has spotty skin, I thought it was time that i experimented with something different.

I have to admit I did something which I haven't done in years and bought this product without any knowledge of it. I looked at the details on it, a good moisturiser for oily skin. It doesn't contain any oils and has turmeric in it. How different! I was completely intrigued, so I thought I would give it a go. I do not regret it at all. I have not had any adverse reaction and my skin is lovely and soft. Along with my Estee Lauder night repair my skin has definitely improved in terms of pigmentation problems. I will definitely be posting a proper review on it, but I'll try it for a bit longer before I do.

Make up:

My only makeup item this month is going to be this M&S Autograph blush in Coral. I do love my Coral blushes, they just bring a soft freshness to your face. This month has been a month of 'good skin and that's all' makeup. So blush has been important that 'look'. It's got good colour pay off and is a true coral colour. And it's £6, quite reasonable for a good blush I think.

On to my first polish favourite. Essie's 'not just a pretty face', is a gorgeous nude colour! I have been looking for a good nude colour for a while and I've always read and heard good things about Essie's nude colour range but never really wanted to fork out £8 for a polish, but the fact that every time I went into Boots and there was an Essie stand I would 'um and ah' over the polishes clearly shows that I needed to give in. I haven't heard a lot about this polish but I love it for my skin tone, it is just right and it's clean. The brush of these polishes are amazing, just need one stroke and your coat for the whole nail is done. For this polish you need about three coats, but the individual coats dry quite fast. A definite thumbs up!

Leisure

TV:

Suits; This show is amazing, just; suave, smart and brilliant. The main characters, Mike Ross and Harvey Spector make such a good duo! I'm not going to say anymore, just that you need to have this in your life! Lol!

Music:

Now this album is a must listen! Delilah - From the roots up! I can only describe this album as easy listening, deep and melodic! I absolutely love her voice! Easgasam is what I would describe her voice as! Now if that isn't a recommendation I don't know what is!

That's it for my September Favourites. Sorry there isn't a book in this months favourites but I haven't had a moment to really read anything and need some good recommendations, so if you have any good reads to recommend then please do!! =)
